Each October, LIPBS produces its Annual Anniversary Awards Gala to honor those who have made an “Outstanding Contribution to Long Island’s Environment.”  The festive and tasteful event is a major social event on Long Island and helps raise the funds needed to advance the Society’s agenda of environmental education and advocacy.

Organizations and individuals participate in the gala through sponsorship, ticket sales, journal advertising and a silent auction.  The Dinner/Dance features gourmet dining and top entertainment.  Past honorees have included notable environmentalists, business leaders and government officials who have contributed to Long Island’s environmental quality.

The 30th Anniversary Environmental Awards Gala was held Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at magnificent Oheka Castle in Huntington.

The honorees were Assemblyman Steve Englebright for "Outstanding Contribution to Long Island's Environment," and DEC Regional Director Peter Scully for "Environmental Achievement."
