Horseback Riding

These are a few of the many places where you can enjoy horseback riding on Long Island and in the Pine Barrens:

Blydenburgh County Park offers an extensive bridle path system. Riders may also utilize two practice corrals with water access and trailer parking.  Horseback riding permits are required.  Main Entrance located on the north side of Veteran's Memorial Highway in Smithtown opposite the H. Lee Dennison County Center.

Southaven County Park is one of Suffolk's most popular parks and offers miles of trails through a diverse environment available for permit holders.  The Equestrian Center at Southaven offers a variety of activities including guided trials, wagon rides, lessons, and boarding facilities.  Please check with park personnel for parking locations.  Located on Victory Avenue in the Town of Brookhaven. 

Sears Bellows County Park provides the opportunity for permit holders to bring their horses to enjoy the guided trails in a unique wooded environment.  Sears Bellows Stable is open year round and offers lessons as well as boarding facilities.  Follow Route 24 to Bellows Pond Road in Hampton Bays. 

Theodore Roosevelt County Park offers beach and trail rides at the Deep Hollow Ranch Stable.  Open year round, a Deep Hollow ride provides visitors with commanding views of the park and surrounding waters.  Park bridle paths are also open to horse permit holders who wish to bring their own horses into Montauk.  Located off of Montauk Highway 3 miles east of the village.  Entrance is on the left.

West Hills County Park contains some of the finest and most picturesque bridle paths on the Island.  Horses can be privately owned or leased from the on-site public Sweet Hills Stables.  Take LIE to exit 48, head north to High Hold Drive. The entrance is on the right.    

Bohemia Equestrian Center offers horseback riders holding valid permits the use of three corrals available for training and exercise accompanied by water access and trailer parking.  Entrance to the center is located on Sycamore Avenue, north of Sunrise Highway, and south of Veteran's Memorial Highway.

Cathedral Pines County Park offers limited but scenic bridal paths.  Valid horse permit required.  Located on Yaphank-Middle Island Road south of Route 25. 

Peconic Headwaters Natural Resource Management Area  provides trails for horseback riding through mixed oak, pine barrens, and open habitat.  Valid New York State DEC permit required. Take LIE exit 69 north to Schultz Road.
