Hunting

On Long Island, hunting is regulated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  Hunters are required to obtain both a state license and permit to hunt on public lands.  Hunting season usually runs during autumn and includes crow, deer, quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, fox, opossum, woodcock and waterfowl.

Hunting opportunities are offered at the following DEC protected areas.  Please visit the DEC's Sporting License Office for information regarding appropriate permits and regulations.  A number of archery opportunities are also available.  Visit the DEC's bow hunter's site for more information.
