Pinetree SOME TOWNS MAKE THE GRADE IN EARTH DAY REPORT CARDS
04/22/2003 - The Society has issued its fourth in a series of "Report Cards," grading government efforts to protect drinking water and preserve open space and farmland. Six Eastern Long Island towns received an Earth Day 2003 report card, which measures their environmental performance since Earth Day 2002, part of a coalition campaign to curtail over-development, called "Enough is Enough!"

Pinetree TOWN SEEKS TO BAR ENVIROS FROM SHOOTING RANGE SUIT
01/29/2003 - Brookhaven Town officials have filed papers in New York State Supreme Court aimed at blocking the Pine Barrens Society from intervening in a long-dormant lawsuit against the operator of a shooting range in Ridge. The range operator is charged with illegally clearing 20 acres of Pine Barrens in the especially sensitive Core Preservation Area and constructing buildings without permits.

Pinetree GOVERNOR VETOES PINE BARRENS ENFORCEMENT BILL
01/05/2003 - At the urging of Supervisors LaValle of Brookhaven, Kozakiewicz of Riverhead, and Heaney of Southampton, Gov. Pataki vetoed a bill that would have allowed the Attorney General to enforce the Pine Barrens Act and instate harsher penalties for law violators.
