Explore the latest addition to the Pine Barrens, the Shoreham-Wading River Coastal Forest, with Pine Barrens Society Co-Founder and naturalist, John Turner. Targeted for clearing and leveling to build a solar farm in 2018, this last remaining coastal forest on Long Island was saved when the Pine Barrens Society successfully advocated for its protection by New York State. Come enjoy its beauty!
The hike will be 1.5-2 miles in length, there are some moderate hills.
This hike is exclusive, as the property has not been formally turned into a state park yet. There is limited street parking. Registrants will be maxed at 15. If you are hiking with friends or family, please try and carpool as much as possible.
$5 fee for adults and $3 fee for children 12 and under – Pre-registration is required. Click here to register.
Social distancing and masks will be required when “gathered around.”
